7 Great Songs For Father’s Day

father's day

From a commercial perspective, Father’s Day is the time when we’re encouraged to send cards and buy gifts for our fathers in recognition of their important role in our lives. However, it can also be a time of mixed emotions. What if you don’t have a father or what if your dad has never been the role model and father figure you needed him to be? What if someone else in your life occupies the position of significant father figure and male role model?

Whether your father is a hero in your life or someone you feel no closer to than the stranger you made eye contact with in the local coffee shop this morning, Father’s Day is a good time to reflect on the type of relationship you have or had with your father. It can also be a chance to acknowledge the importance of having close bonds, loving relationships and unconditional love that endures all the ups and downs, and joys and pains we inevitably go through in our lives. So let’s use the opportunity to honor our fathers, brothers, uncles and cherish all the other important men who play a vital role in our lives.

We’ve collected some great songs about fathers and father figures to play on Father’s Day.

John Mayer – Daughters

I know a girl
She puts the color inside of my world
But she’s just like a maze
Where all of the walls all continually change
And I’ve done all I can
To stand on her steps with my heart in my hands
Now I’m starting to see
Maybe it’s got nothing to do with me

Luther Vandross – Dance With My Father

If I could get another chance, another walk,
another dance with him
I’d play a song that would never, ever end
How I’d love, love, love
To dance with my father again

Beyonce – Daddy

Words can’t express my boundless gratitude for you
I appreciate what you do
You’ve given me such security
No matter what mistakes I know you’re there for me
You cure my disappointments and you heal my pain
You understand my fears and you protected me

Miley Cyrus – I Learned From You

I learned from you that I do not crumble
I learned that strength is somethin’ you choose
All of the reasons to keep on believin’
There’s no question, that’s a lesson, I learned from you

Keith Urban – Song for Dad

The older I get
The more I can see
How much he loved my mother and my brother and me
And he did the best that he could
And I only hope when I have my own family
That everyday I see
A little more of my father in me

U2 – Sometimes You Can’t Make It on Your Own

And it’s you when I look in the mirror
And it’s you when I don’t pick up the phone
Sometimes you can’t make it on your own

Eric Clapton – My Father’s Eyes

Bit by bit, I’ve realized
That he was here with me;
I looked into my father’s eyes.
My father’s eyes.
I looked into my father’s eyes.
My father’s eyes.
