Revived: Reflecting on How I Survived My Eating Disorder (a poem)

I can vividly remember,
When I was almost swallowed by the sea,
But now that I can swim again,

The monsters cannot get to me.

I can breathe again.
In through the nose, out with the wind.

It seems I’ve been forgiven,
Despite all the times I have sinned.

My veins are vessels for sunlight,
My palms baskets for stars,
I cannot always win my battles,

But I always heal my scars.

I praise the earth and give glory to the sky
Thankful for being revived,
Until I remember it was me all along-

The reason I have survived.
