Yoga Pose of The Month: Tree

2016-09-30-1

Advice from a tree:

Stay grounded
Connect with your roots
Turn over a new leaf
Bend before you break
Embrace your natural beauty
Keep growing towards the light

Welcome to October! It’s fall here in my neck of the woods (Ohio, USA) so the trees are lighting up with color then letting their leaves go. Fall inspires me to settle in and reflect on the last year as it winds down, and to feel out what I want to bring forth in the next one.

This is a time to look at releasing what no longer serves you. This could be thoughts, beliefs, emotions from past experiences, habits, etc. Tree pose helps us with this process as well as empowering us to open to new possibilities beyond our old patterns. It’s a great anytime, anywhere kind of yoga pose too. No props needed except maybe a chair or wall to lean on. Try busting it out off the mat whenever you need support along your journey.

Pose Of The Month: Tree (Sanskrit “vrkasana)

Stand tall like a tree rooted in the earth as fears and false beliefs flow past you like leaves carried on the wind. – unknown

Affirmation: “I am grounded, balanced and unique.”

Additional props:

*wall or chair nearby for support

Benefits:

*strengthens thighs, calves, ankles, and spine

*stretches the groins and inner thighs, chest and shoulders

*improves sense of balance

*relieves sciatica and reduces flat feet

*improves posture and calms the mind

Contraindications:

*headache

Remember, like each tree in the world you are totally unique. There’s only one you.

Rise and shine,

Julie
